Staffing

All our Staff are appropriately qualified for their positions and hold current first aid and safeguarding certificates. Each child will be allocated a Key Person (member of staff) to care for your child and these members of Staff have a depth of experience of working with children.

Staff Profiles

Fiona Wheeler - Manager

I joined playgroup having previously served on the Committee and coming from a background in office management decided to have a change of career. I gained my NVQ Level 3 and 4 in Childcare and Education and SENCO Accreditation and now have 25 years of experience working with children both at Playgroup and through partnerships with other settings. I am passionate about keeping Playgroup a part of the local community and it is lovely to see past pupils come back to do work experience with us or go on to qualify in working with children.

Rachel Sloan - Deputy Manager/Admissions Secretary

I have been working in childcare for over 20 years in a variety of settings. I have NNEB Advanced Diploma in child care and education and up to date first aid & safeguarding certificates. I have a 16 year old who attended playgroup and now attends the local school.

Katie Mortimer-Early Years Practitioner/Health & Safety Key Person

I have worked in Early Years Settings and Schools as a teaching assistant supporting children's learning and development for a number of years.  I have a Level 3 Diploma in Early Years and Supporting Teaching and Learning.I also work supporting children with special educational needs.  I am a Mum to two boys one is at a local secondary school and the other is at university and I have a 2 year old girl who attends Playgroup

Kirsty Edge - Early Years Practitioner

I have a 14year old son and hold a NNEB and childcare qualification. I started my career as a nanny and progressed to being a Deputy Manager of a nursery in York. Having  covered as Relief Supervisor I am now delighted to be a Supervisor  and champion Tapestry and ECAT.

Kath Strickland - Assistant Early Years Practitioner

I have worked in the childcare sector for a number of years and in a variety of areas including nursery assistant, nanny, play worker and teaching assistant and have enjoyed all experiences.  I have a Level 3 Diploma for the Children and Young Peoples Workforce which I completed in 2012 and I am also First Aid trained.  I am married with a 12 year old daughter who goes to the local secondary school and also have a 6 year old daughter wo attends the local primary school.  I am excited and love being  part of the Playgroup Team helping with SEN children and recently undertook my SENCO training.
 

Mandy Welburn - Relief Staff Member

I have worked with Stockton Lane Playgroup for many years, originally coordinating placements at the playgroup for Spanish teachers on English courses in York. Together we provided a quality learning experience for the teachers and one that was very popular with the children. Being a qualified teacher I was am able to cover for staff when needed and have a Grandchild who attends the Playgroup.

Karen Ulliott - Relief Staff Member

I have gained by Level 3 qualification in Child Care and Education and have been working as a teaching assistant and helping voluntarily at a local Schoool. I live at home with my husband and 2 daughters and our little dog Molly. I love to go for days out with my family and friends and in my spare time I like to go to the gym, cook meals and take my children to the park.  My eldest daughter attended the Playgroup prior to going to school and my youngest daughter attends now and I am now delighted to be working for the Playgroup as a member of Staff having been part of the Playgroup Community and Partnership.

Emma Waind - Relief Staff Member

I am a qualified teacher and attended the Playgroup myself as have my two sons so I have experienced the Playgroup from being apupil, Committee member, Mum and a member of Staff.

 

Rebecca Welburn - Playgroup Assistant

II have been working with children for the past 13 years mainly as a ISTD dance teacher. I currently still teach at Queen Margaret’s School, the Rebecca Davies School of Dance and my own classes teaching many dance styles. I studied dance at a performing arts college in Liverpool where I gained my dance teaching qualification with some of the modules including children’s life span development and health and safety and I have taken child safe guarding courses over the years. I have two young children of my own a little girl age 4 who attended Stockton Lane playgroup for the last two years before starting school and I also have a little boy age 1. I am really looking forward to this new opportunity to work with children in a different surrounding and especially at such a lovely playgroup.
